U.S. Government wants you to be less social
Posted by Brian Busche under Uncategorized, Rants
Legislation that was recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives seeks to bar access to “Social Networking” sites like MySpace if you are accessing them from a school or library. While the concept is well intended, the sloppy manner in which it was drafted is going to bar access to an overbroad range of sites that simply let you create an online profile.
Thats millions of sites!
This politically motivated rush to create new laws has everyone wondering how carelessly these legislators will behave in order to bolster their party’s prospects in the upcoming elections.
“So now we are on the floor with a piece of legislation poorly thought out, with an abundance of surprises, which carries with it that curious smell of partisanship and panic, but which is not going to address the problems,” said Rep. John Dingell, a Michigan Democrat. “This is a piece of legislation which is going to be notorious for its ineffectiveness and, of course, for its political benefits to some of the members hereabout.”
