Posted by Brian Busche under Flash, PHP, Blogging, web design, MySQL
The camaro.com website has been completely re-designed, taking advantage of blogging technology, and lots of cutting edge features. The design allows the site to publish stories about the Camaro world, while aggregating information from other blogs as well. The end result is a site that provides users with a unique perspective on their favorite car, while connecting them with numerous other resources.
The main focus of camaro.com over the past few years has been an online petition asking GM to bring back the Chevy Camaro. This feature has been retained in the new site, and has an impressive 95,000+ subscribers. Other features of the new site include:
- Photos of the Camaro concept car, hosted by Flickr
- Ability to embed YouTube and Google Video in the blog posts
- AJAX powered pageless searching and archive results
- Flash powered book search utilizing Amazon Web Services API
- Social tagging that supports popular sites like del.ico.us, and digg
- Technorati tags, automatically generaed with each post
- An open comments system that allows registered users to publish
The blogging engine behind the new design is WordPress, and the site utilizes numerous plugins and modifications that enable its rich combination of features. Of course the site provides its own RSS feed and others are encouraged to integrate this feed into their own web site or news reader application.
